MORE MANAGERIAL LESSONS FROM TEST CRICKET?

What you can learn from Cheteshwar Pujara

India, won the recent Test Series in Australia 2 to 1. Cheteshwar Pujara was the man of
the series with a tally of 521 runs and match winning knocks in Adelaide and Melbourne.
And this is what this high performer had to say in a recent interview to the Times of India,
published on February 12, 2019.

“As a batsman you should not have any thoughts. If you have a blank mind, you can
execute your skills better. Yoga has helped me to reach the stage when I am
thoughtless when I bat or even if I have thoughts, I ensure they are positive.”
Pujara’s down to earth quote seems straight out of Mindful Foundation's
( https://www.mindful.org/what-is-mindfulness/ ) definition!

“Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are
and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on
around us.”

Clearly, Pujara is on to something that can significantly influence the ability of every one of
us to execute our skills better and up our game. A good way to begin would be to ask
ourselves some simple questions.

1. When under pressure to perform, don’t I need to bring all my skills and talents into play?
2. In order to bring all my talents into play, don’t I need the ability to keep our mind calm /
blank, when under pressure?
3. Cheteshwar Pujara practiced yoga to gain this ability. What am I doing to gain the very
same ability?
Do tell us how you plan to act on this powerful insight from Cheteshwar Pujara!
