LEADERSHIP LESSONS FROM GOLF 1 of 3

Golf is a popular sport, particularly with senior executives. Many rules and situations in this game are similar to real life and business issues. Here are few situations from golf which are so true in business management and life as well.

  1. You bring your own set of clubs to play. In business, you bring your skills and knowledge to manage. You get so used to your own set of clubs that you find it very difficult to play with a set belonging to another person. In business and life also you have certain beliefs and certain ways of reaching your results. You are comfortable with the same and confident in using your way of doing things.
  2. You play the ball as it lies. In business, you have to deal with a situation as it happens. Your task is to find the best way to deal with the event or situation, how to get out of trouble or hit the next big winning shot depending on where you are.
  3. You are the person solely responsible for where you have landed and the situation you are facing. Cannot blame it on anyone, it’s your game and your shot that landed you wherever you are. It was your strategy and your execution that has brought the situation you are in the business.
  4. You do not always win. Some shots go the way you planned, and many do not. You need to deal with the situation whatever it is. Learn to enjoy. In business, also you win some deals and lose some others. You have to move on after learning from setbacks.
