Here are few more situations from golf which are so true in business management and life as well.
- You cannot change your swing once you are on the golf course to play. You improve your game by practising new skills at a designated practice area with a coach. Similarly, once you’re in the real business scene, you trust your experience, knowledge, and judgment. Learning is best done when not busy by reading, training, coaching, and sharing, etc.
- Golf is played in the mind of the player, so self-confidence is vital for hitting the right shot. At times you miss a very short putt just because you failed to focus.
- You may have played on the same course hundreds of times, but every time you face a different challenge. The environment is different, the grass or rough area is different and location or lie of the ball is different, so challenges are always different. Same way in your business or in managing people the challenges are different every time irrespective of how long you have been handling. Need to select a new strategy and new tools to handle the scene.
- Every shot counts towards your score in golf. You are faced with decisions on each shot. Same is true in business. Every decision and execution counts. You may drive 300 yards but miss 2 yards putt. Both count as one stroke. Similarly, the project is not done until the closure of the last detail.
Now you know what makes golf exciting. It’s the same that makes life exciting. You look forward to every new day just like golfers look for next shot to play.
